The Digital Dollar Project
will run five pilot programs in The US over the next one year. The pilots will gather data needed by policymakers for government development of a sovereign cryptocurrency. About a two minute read.
Comment: The US government is far behind China, as well as other G20 nations in the development of a Central Bank Digital Currency, or CBDC. And when they finally do deploy a US CBDC I suspect it will look very different from, for example, Bitcoin. A stable coin, by definition, a US CBDC will have many intrinsic advantages over other cryptos, but adoption most definitely will lag.
